Welcome to the May Chatterbox Quilts’ newsletter! Welcome to the end of May – and hopefully the end of snow in Calgary. 🤣 While it may seem strange to have snow at this time of year we did “enjoy” a snowfall during the Victoria Day weekend. Now we can just look forward to warmer weather in June and the large amount of rain that we typically have in that month! ☔️🌧️ What happened this monthThis month TQW members finished their Spring Hearts project where they learned raw edge appliqué and various ways to add embellishments to this, or any other, project. I did manage to finish one of my own projects this month: a baby quilt for my son’s friend. I used some of a fat quarter bundle and pieced the binding which I think gave a fun look to the quilt. I did use Jack on this project as I started with an all over design and didn’t like how it was looking. Two hours later, I was ready to start quilting again and really liked the result. If you’re interested in how to make a similar quilt, click here May is the start of quilt show season in my area and while I would’ve normally attended one of my favourite shows this month, my body had other ideas and I wasn’t able to go. 😢 My back and I have a love/hate relationship that decided to veer into the “hate” area this month so there were doctor’s appointments, X-rays, and still further treatment to come but I’m back to my “love” relationship with my back – as of this email at least. 😉 Keep your fingers crossed for me and my back. 🤞🏻 TipI’ve been creating articles in The Quilter’s Way on the large variety of marking tools that are available and have learned so much! One of my best tips is to always, always, always test a marking tool before using it on your project. It can be easy to confuse water soluble and heat erasable markers and there can be permanent consequences if you do this. Always read the instructions before using the marker, keep the packaging with the marker for reference, and be sure to test before marking. YouTube VideosHere are the new videos released in May for your viewing and learning pleasure (just click on the picture). Coming SoonIn The Quilter’s Way, members will be learning a new technique: how to create a project with hexagons by machine – no hand stitching required. I’m looking forward to sharing this information with them as there are so many ways you can use hexies to create stunning projects. As I mentioned in my previous email, I’m heading to Quilt Canada 2026 in Winnipeg, MB in a few weeks. I’ll be demoing the use of the ASR (Accurate Stitch Regulator) at the Janome booth at the show. I’m looking forward to meeting quilters, chatting with friends, and just taking in all the amazing quilts that I know will be at the show. If you’re there, be sure to say hi! 👋🏻 *Note: I use affiliate links in my emails and, if you click on a link, I will receive a small amount of compensation when you purchase an item.
