Welcome to the May Chatterbox Quilts’ newsletter! Happy almost summer! We’re enjoying gorgeous spring weather here in Calgary and the air is filled with the scent of lilacs and blooming flowers. I love this time of year as it brings renewal and…quilt shows! I’ve already been to two shows this season and it always provides lots of inspiration and ideas for future projects. What happened this monthI have some exciting news that I’ve been keeping under wraps but can now tell you about: I have a course on the Creative Spark Online Learning platform! Just released is The Mandala Project: a free motion whole cloth project. I’m super excited to announce that this course is now available and once you’re enrolled in it, you’ll have unlimited access allowing you to watch it over and over again. You’ll learn a variety of practical free motion quilting designs, learn how to echo quilt with a walking foot and get to create a stunning whole cloth design. Click here for more details and to enroll in my first – but definitely not my last – course with CSOL. I’ve also been to two quilt shows: one in Red Deer, AB (about 1 ½ hours north of Calgary) hosted by the Central Alberta Quilter’s Guild and more recently at the Heritage Park Festival of Quilts. These are two of my favourite quilt shows and I enjoyed visiting both of them and chatting with my quilting friends (I often – always, my hubby would say – spend more time chatting than anything else at these shows!). I shared a slideshow of quilts from the CAQG show in one of the ZOOM meetings in The Quilter’s Way to provide inspiration for the members. Here are some photos from the Heritage Park FOQ show. In The Quilter’s Way, members are continuing to work on the TQW Cruise Sampler project and having lots of fun making the blocks. I’ve got to say that they are very creative with their fabric choices in the different blocks, such as a stormy sky for The Ship block and even “jewels” for parts of The Castle block. It’s always fun in The Quilter’s Way so why not join us. Click here for all the details and you can be enjoying the fun and camaraderie in this online membership TipWhat’s the most important item to take to a quilt show? It’s not your credit card (although that’s important!) but your phone to take photos and a power bank to ensure that your phone doesn’t run out of power – and miss out on taking photos of all those outstanding quilts! YouTube VideosHere are the new videos released in May for your viewing and learning pleasure (just click on the picture). Coming SoonIn June, TQW members will be finishing up their sampler quilt project and I can hardly wait to see their completed quilts. Each member will be deciding on how to arrange the 5 different quilt blocks into a top and I’m sure there will be lots of interesting designs. Quilt Canada 2025 is happening in Toronto in June and I’ll be there! I’m looking forward to meeting and chatting with Janome or potential Janome owners at the Janome Canada booth where I’ll be highlighting some of the features of the amazing Janome CM17 machine. More details will be coming your way soon. Take care, Kim P.S.
