I’ve got lots to share with you in today’s email.

What happened this month

It’s been a month of quilt shows. First I attended a local guild’s quilt show and got a chance to admire their quilts and connect with many of my quilting friends. They have guild challenges and one of them for this year was a denim challenge. So many wonderful ideas – I’m looking at my jeans in a whole new way!

They also had a featured quilter, Anne Picciano, and I loved the tuffet that she made. First, I love horses, and second, look at the precision in applying the fabric around the edge and the fussy cut “button” on the top. Beautiful! (She also made the horse wall hanging in the denim challenge).

Now that quilt show season was officially underway, it was time to head to Winnipeg, MB for the Quilt Canada 2026 show. This national show is hosted by the Canadian Quilters’ Guild (CQA) and is always an amazing event. Lots of vendors and, of course, stunning quilts!

As a Janome Canada artisan, I did a demo using the ASR (Accurate Stitch Regulator) on the Janome CM17 at the Janome booth on the first day of the show. Then it was off to take in the vendors (yes, I did buy a few things 😉) and the amazing quilts. Here are a few photos from the show.

We also spent a day outside of Winnipeg, visiting the Marine Museum of Canada in Selkirk, MB, as well as taking in Lake Winnipeg in Gimli.

In The Quilter’s Way, members learned about marking tools in a series of Spotlight articles as well as information on rulers used for ruler quilting. Then it was time to learn a new technique: making hexie projects using a sewing machine. Traditionally projects with hexagons have been made with hand stitching but this month TQW members are learning 3 different techniques for making this type of project all using a domestic sewing machine. Less stress on your hands and quicker to make!

Tip/Recommended Tools

While not exactly quilting related, if you have an Apple watch, I have a tip for you! When travelling, I don’t like to take my Apple brand charger with me: it’s bulky and expensive to replace if I forget it in my hotel room. Instead, I purchased a portable charger that works so well! It holds a charge very well, recharges my watch quickly, and can be attached to your purse or backpack. Since I bought mine, there have been improvements so you can charge more than one device at a time. Note: Check to be sure that your Apple watch and iPhone versions will work with this device.
