Chatterbox Quilts News for July 2025

Welcome to the July Chatterbox Quilts’ newsletter!

Wow! It’s the end of July already! In Calgary that means that the summer is half over and fall will soon be upon us. While many quilters migrate from their studios to their gardens during July and August, I’m always in my quilt studio working on my next project or pattern. This month was slightly different because I was on vacation for the first week of July so out of quilting commission.

What happened this month

While I didn’t make an Island Batik project this month, I did receive my second shipment of fabrics and notions from Island Batik of Lumin Fabrics and their sponsors. You can check out all of the luscious fabrics and precuts I received here. These are now patiently waiting to be made into glorious quilts.

One thing I did do this month was enrol in the Embroidery Extravaganza from Creative Spark Online Learning (did you attend too?) which inspired me to start some hand stitching projects. I love this portable craft and it’s a great way to embellish quilts and garments too! You can look forward to seeing some of my hand stitching work in upcoming YouTube videos and Island Batik Ambassador projects.

In The Quilter’s Way, we started the Fabric SOS Challenge to get our fabric yardage and precuts sorted, organized, and stored. This fun – and effective – challenge is free for TQW members and I know that many members have been looking forward to getting their fabric back in shape. Not a TQW member and need to get your messy fabric stash organized? You can join us here.

Tip

If you like to do hand stitching projects as well, I’ve found that a plastic fishing tackle box 🐠🎣 is a great way to store my threads. I like that there are adjustable plastic pieces to keep everything neat and tidy. You can find different sizes of these to suit where you want to store them or the amount of threads you have.

YouTube Videos

Here are the new videos released in July for your viewing and learning pleasure (just click on the picture).

Coming Soon

TQW members will be continuing the Fabric SOS Challenge into August so that their fabric stash will be neatly organized for upcoming fall projects. They’ll also be doing the Wrangle Your Scraps Challenge next month (free for TQW members) to get their fabric scraps in order. This is such a fun challenge with a western theme and one that I look forward to each year. Join us today in The Quilter's Way to get your fabric scraps wrangled and corralled. 🐎🤠

You can look forward to new videos on my Chatterbox Quilts’ YouTube channel. Did you know that I post two new videos every week? If you’re not already a subscriber, join the group here. You’ll be sure to find new ideas and be inspired to try new techniques on your own projects.

Take care,

Kim
